Ebenezer Day - Thirteen Years Later

Ebenezer Day! No, not Scrooge, but 1 Samuel 7:12. After the Lord miraculously brought the Jews through an impossible battle, the prophet Samuel set up a stone as a monument. He called it Ebenezer (Stone of Help), testifying to how God had been the people’s Stone of Help. Thus far He had brought them.

Thirteen years ago today my family’s car was struck by a distracted driver. By God’s grace, everyone survived, and we are thankful. I was paralyzed and critically injured in the accident. It hasn’t been easy; the damage was and is massive. Yet the Lord has been beyond faithful in a humanly impossible battle. He truly is, as Samuel proclaimed, the Stone of Help.

Whatever your situation, no matter how impossible, Jesus Christ remains the solid Rock. May He be your Ebenezer today, and may every day be a monument to His glory, power, and victory!

“10 And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the Lord thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel.

11 And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Bethcar.

12 Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the Lord helped us.” (1 Sam 7:10-12)
